So last night i was on my usual travels and caught Three Blind Wolves at Oporto. The band had traveled down from Glasgow, almost not making the gig when their van blew up just out of their hometown. Really impressed me, if you're into stuff like Neutral Milk Hotel, Fleet Foxes, Neil Young, Ryan Adams, Frightened Rabbit (well a mix of a lot of stuff) they might well be your thing.
2010 is the year Dance To The Radio, the Leeds independent label turns 5 years old. To celebrate this fact the label is reuniting some of the class of 2005 who appeared on the first Dance To The Radio release, Dance To The Radio : Leeds (DTTR002), with a new school of Dance To The Radio bands.
Dance To The Radio : Still Occupied Though You Forget features new material from The Sunshine Underground, Honour Before Glory (Whiskas / ¡Forward, Russia!) plus an exclusive preview of new material from I Like Trains. Joining the old guard will be a mix of the current Dance To The Radio roster and a selection of our favourite bands from around the world with Paul Thomas Saunders, Rose Elinor Dougall, Bear In Heaven, Club Smith, Three Trapped Tigers, Oberhofer, Bear Hands and (The) Tony Castles joining the party
Released on a glorious 12” picture disc the label will be joining the worldwide celebrations for Record Store Day. Dance To The Radio has also promised £2 of every 12” record sold through the DTTR store will go to the UNICEF, helping out with the current world disasters.

Drink Up Buttercup may hail from Philadelphia but the geography of their debut album “Born & Thrown On A Hook” is less easily located on a physical map. It’s an occasionally surreal mythology filled with tales of hopelessly flawed characters, star-crossed lovers, drunks, fairy tales & bad trips. It exists in a world touched upon previously by Tom Waits, Hans Christian Anderson and Lloyd Kaufman while musically it follows a direct lineage of classic song writing: Bowie, The Beatles & The Beach Boys late 60s lysergia, early Roxy Music, Sabbath’s bass heavy pulse & the crescendos of Arcade Fire.
Recorded meticulously throughout 2009 by Bill Moriarty (Dr Dog / Man Man) and mixed by Rusty Santos (Animal Collective / Owen Pallett) it perfectly balances consistently catchy melodies with the raw energy of their trashcan pounding live show.

"Psychedelic without being cheesy, this band sounds like a sinister carnival." - NPR All Songs Considered
“a rollicking disc of smart-pop: a collection of energetically neurotic psychedelic/glam/art rock packed with stuttering circus-y keyboards” Blogcritics
“They have a spinning circus vibe and shout out loud tendency a la Arcade Fire (but in a very different, less emotionally heavy way)” Stereogum
So i've been so slack at using this thing, sorry. Anyway for those out the loop on Dance To The Radio we are now working with a fantastic artist called 'Rose Elinor Dougall.' Rose used to be in The Pipettes some time ago but left to start work on solo material. Her debut album Without Why is coming out later in the year but here are a few videos from her at SXSW festival in Austin this year.

I admit it; after listening to so many 45's thru the years, stuff can
easily slip thru the cracks. Thanks to shuffle play on my trusty ol' ipod

Right, it has not gone unnoticed that we have been pretty crap at blogging,
hopefully 2010 will bring a change to this sorry state of affairs. Until
